Larry R. Arrington

Larry R. Arrington, interim senior vice president for agriculture and natural resources at the University of Florida, is a Florida native. He earned his bachelor of science from UF, master’s from the University of Georgia and doctorate from the Ohio State University. He is married to Candy, and they have three adult children: Kelly, Justin and Brett.

Before becoming interim senior vice president, Arrington served for five years as IFAS dean for extension and from 1996-2003 he was associate dean for extension. He was appointed district extension director for northwest Florida in1991. At UF since 1981, he is a professor of Agricultural Education and Communication. As a faculty member he maintained a teaching program related to teaching and learning as well as extension education. His primary research focus was on experiential learning. He was selected as Teacher of the Year for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) and is a Fellow of the National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture. He has chaired the National Agricultural Education Research Meeting as well as the Association of Southern Region Extension Directors. He serves on the board for Florida Agriculture in the Classroom and is chairman of the Suwannee River Partnership.

Appointed interim senior vice president in January 2009, Arrington is administrative head of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), which includes the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the School of Natural Resources and Environment, the School of Forest Resources and Conservation, elements of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, with offices in each of the state’s 67 counties.
